Michael Thomas is done for the season, as he suffered a setback in his ankle recovery. The New Orleans Saints have replaced him with Ted Ginn Jr., who had three receptions on one target Sunday against Washington.

The “Michael Thomas injury history” is a setback for the New Orleans Saints WR. Thomas will be out for the season after he had surgery on his ankle, which was originally injured during the pre-season.

METAIRIE, Louisiana — After “another slight setback which we will have to handle” in his recuperation from ankle surgery, New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas stated on Wednesday that he would miss the whole 2021 season.

According to ESPN, the setback was a recent occurrence that occurred after Thomas had been making progress in his recuperation. Thomas had been “working his tail off” when recent tests revealed that he would need another treatment, according to Saints coach Sean Payton.

“I don’t believe he has any influence over this,” Payton remarked.

Thomas had surgery in June to repair numerous ligaments in his left ankle, which he first injured in Week 1 of the 2020 season and fought for the rest of the year. Originally, he was scheduled to return in October.

“I’ve always been a man of faith, and my faith has certainly been challenged these last several months,” Thomas tweeted.

“Since [the June ankle surgery], the team and I have worked tirelessly, day and night, to rehab and get me back on the field,” Thomas stated. Unfortunately, another little setback has occurred, which we will have to handle. I will not be able to return in time for this season, much to my disappointment, but I will do all in my ability to return to the player I have always been.

“I believe God doesn’t make errors, so I’ll keep following in his footsteps, and I can’t wait to go back on the field in front of the world’s finest fans.”

In 2019, Thomas, 28, was named the NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year after setting a league record with 149 receptions. However, he only played in nine games last season, including the playoffs, and has yet to play this season.

He’ll be missed by a 5-2 Saints squad that has been without a dependable pass-catcher since losing starting quarterback Jameis Winston to an ACL rupture on Sunday.

With 180.9 passing yards per game, the Saints are 31st in the NFL.

According to ESPN’s Kimberley Martin, the Saints and the Cleveland Browns discussed a potential trade for Odell Beckham Jr. before the trade deadline passed, but the parties couldn’t come to an agreement because of how much Beckham is due for the remainder of the season.

“There was never any, ‘We came down to the wire and simply couldn’t agree on the price,’” Payton said on Wednesday, adding that the Saints done their “research” on various positions before the trade deadline.

After Tre’Quan Smith and Deonte Harris just returned from injury, the coach praised the team’s wide receiver depth.

“These players are tough, competitive, and I like them,” Payton added, citing Smith, Harris, Marquez Callaway, Kenny Stills, Kevin White, and Lil’Jordan Humphrey as examples. “I’m not concerned about your PFF [Pro Football Focus] rankings or anything else. This group appeals to me.

“Mike Thomas is obviously superior in that group, but we don’t have him right now. We also don’t have Jameis Winston as quarterback. And our league may be like that at times.”

Thomas and the crew were first irritated by the timing of his operation in June. Payton expressed his disappointment with the procedure not taking place sooner at the start of training camp. Then, in August, after various stories claimed Thomas was to responsible for the delay, Thomas tweeted: “They attempted to smear your name. By not presenting your side of the story, you were able to spare theirs.”

Thomas also liked many postings at the time that claimed the Saints pressured him to play through his ailment without surgery last season and blamed him for not being healthy.

After a constructive phone discussion between Payton and Thomas, the tension seemed to have subsided, and Thomas has remained with the team for the most of his rehabilitation. In the Caesars Superdome on Sunday, he was on the sidelines as the New Orleans Saints defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 36-27.

In his remarks on Wednesday, Thomas mentioned his first recuperation from the 2020 injury.

“As many of you know, I hurt my ankle early last season and fought really hard for the following three months to come back in time to complete the season,” Thomas said. “Unfortunately, the rehab did not go as anticipated, and it became clear during this off-season that I would need surgery to fix the damage.”

The “michael thomas injury fantasy” is a setback for Michael Thomas, who has been out for the season after an ankle injury.
