Preview of Diaz vs. Lawler 2
When octagon vets Nick Diaz and Robbie Lawler square off at UFC 266 on Saturday night, there may not be a title on the line, but there is plenty of pride on the line.
The first time they met was at UFC 47, which was 17 years ago. Both are still fighting, but Diaz doesn’t seem too enthusiastic about meeting Lawler again.
Diaz told ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, “All the people surrounding me, all the money, all the sponsors, they won’t let me walk away from fighting.” “There are things I could do, but they aren’t going to work. I’ll simply go ahead and take my blows. … I don’t want to look back and think to myself, “Why didn’t I just do it?” I’m not in the best of moods. Fighting gives me a wonderful feeling. Everything else [doesn’t make me happy]. I’m not sure how I’ll feel about myself if I don’t accomplish this.”
Diaz, who hasn’t fought since 2015, remains confident in his skills and believes he would have been better prepared for a championship fight against Kamaru Usman.
Diaz remarked, “I believe I’ll beat the s— out of Usman.” “I have a greater chance versus Usman than I do against Lawler simply because I have previously defeated Lawler. It doesn’t make sense for me to face Robbie Lawler once again. I’m not sure why I’m doing it. … This should not be the case. The person who put this up is a moron. I’m not sure why I’m doing it. I have no idea why this occurred. I’m supposed to be fighting Kamaru Usman — and that’s all there is to it.”
Lawler has been a tough opponent, even agreeing to a late weight cut, with the bout now taking place at 185 pounds instead of 170, which is a significant difference.
Lawler told ESPN, “Yeah, [my manager, Dave Martin] is taking care of it on his end.” “He’s on the phone with [the UFC], smoothing things up and making sure everything is in order. ‘All right, let’s go,’ I said to Dave while we were chatting. But what is right is correct. There’s no doubt in my mind that I’m always ready to battle. It’s simply a matter of putting things right on the other end.”
Despite coming third on a program with two championship bouts, the experienced pair will battle for five rounds. The odds are presently equal, with most bookmakers listing both combatants at -115.
The nick diaz is a fight that will be held tonight. It is the main event of UFC 183 and will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
